What will 2020 bring to Sri Lankan Tourism?
Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean has
always been a magical tourist destination for people around the globe. Sri
Lanka is filled with beautiful flora, fauna, emerald hills and enchanting seas
which enhance the natural beauty of this tropical country. Tourism has come a
long way throughout the past decades which assisted Sri Lanka in a numerous
means. 2020 will indeed be a year with a new hope in the tourism industry.
Several new avenues will be created in the industry that will drag a number of
tourists to this beautiful island. This will indeed affect the economy of Sri
Lanka in a favourable manner racing the state of Sri Lanka to a higher
position.
Several measures have already been taken by the
authorities to upgrade the state of Sri Lankan tourism. Visa free schemes have
been provided to tourists coming from a number of countries encouraging them to
visit this land of beauty. In the year 2020 more focus will be given to
essential facilities such as transport and accommodation. The state of
transport of the country will be developed in order to assists the tourists
with travelling. Places of accommodation of various types such as hotels, home
stays, cabanas or even camping sites are planned to be developed within the
coming years.
Technology has been used vitally in the present
digital age within Sri Lanka. This will continue to increase in the coming
years, allowing more tourists to connect with Sri Lanka and its service
providers. Sri Lanka will improve new avenues to connect with travel agents.
Optimizing the websites to get information, more investments in video marketing
are some of the new improvements that 2020 will bring in Sri Lankan tourism
industry. Another technological advancement is the use of chat-bots in travel
and tourism related activities such as booking accommodation, transport and to
find details of places of visit. These aspects will improve the state of
tourism in Sri Lanka to a greater extent.
Sri Lanka being a country based on agricultural
industry, the new avenue of agro tourism is improving within the island. With
the presence of gigantic reservoirs and major irrigation schemes agriculture of
the island these could be included in the tours offered. Activities such as
watching padding harvesting, trekking through acres of cultivation, enjoying a
local meal and accommodating in a rural farm stay are some of the activities
that are included under agro farming.
2020 will focus more on Eco tourism as a means
to develop tourism within the country.
Eco tourism and eco friendly destinations have now become the catch
phrases of the tourism sector. A number of accommodation spots have been
developed following the concept of eco tourism. Areas like Habarana, Ellla,
Galle and even suburbs of Colombo will be chosen to build accommodations to
tourists. Tree top cottages, open cottages in the middle of jungles are some of
the key plans which will be set up to improve eco tourism. Not only foreigners,
locals too are interested in camping. More venues are being opened up for
tourists to perform camping. Forest camping, beach camping, camping by
waterfalls, hiking are some of the activities that is paid more attention.
The concept of hot air ballooning was introduced to Sri
Lanka in the recent years. In the coming years this will be developed for a
higher extend allowing tourists to fly in the skies of Dambulla, witnessing the
beauty of the greenery underneath them.
Similarly, wild life tourism will be given attention more within the coming years. Yala, Udawalawa, Hortain Plains and Wilpaththu will be developed with new means of promoting tourism within those regions. The tourists can get a wonderful experience within the wild life including camp fires, BBQ nights, open camping and etc. These will be a far beyond magical experience to the tourists who visit Sri Lanka.
Eastern Sri Lanka is an area with significant potential as it is considered world-class beaches in this region. Locations like Pasekudah and Arugam Bay, particularly for surfing enthusiasts, are top destinations. Surfing will be developed in large scale within the eastern coast to attack more tourists.

ways. As per the strategies implemented by the authorities, tourism will be
developed within Sri Lanka aiming to provide an unforgettable experience to the
foreigners who visit Sri Lanka. The ongoing tourism trend has brought a large
influx of tourists looking for a more authentic experience, according to
industry experts. 2020 will provide an experience with a true Sri Lankan touch
to give the tourists a trip full of memories.

I agree with you Shaniya. Sri Lankan government has taken huge measures specially to develop the road infrastructures. Also few great hotels like the Sheraton Colombo ,Sapphire residencies ITC Hotel etc. will be opened in 2020 which will help boost the tourism revenue in Sri Lanka.
